History
You may not have realized it, but NXP's logic heritage goes all the way back to Signetics, one of the first semiconductor companies that started Silicon Valley, California.
Today, NXP logic continues to be head-quartered in Silicon Valley, in close contact with some of the world's most demanding and advanced technology companies.
Of course, with our global presence, we fully support our customers around the world, reflecting our massive global manufacturing and logistics expertise.
In fact, NXP is the world's largest standard logic supplier.
Today, 1 in every 3 logic devices is from NXP!
Below are some key logic dates in our history.
It's amazing to consider that each block represents an entire decade.
At NXP, we've been in logic for a long time!
- September 1961: Signetics Corporation is founded, being the first company in the world established solely for the manufacture and sale of integrated ICs
- March 1962: Signetics introduces the first integrated circuit Diode Transisor Logic (DTL) logic family
- 1962-1973: Signetics rapidly expands with manufacturing facilities in the United States, Korea, Scotland, and Germany
- Nov 1973: Signetics goes public with its first IPO public stock offering
- 1974-1993: Signetics continues expansion with new manufacturing facilities in Thailand, Japan, and the Philippines, while expanding/restructuring existing ones
- January 1993: With the purchase of Signetics by Philips, our name is changed to Philips Semiconductors
- October 2006: NXP Semiconductors is born and is spun out from Philips
NXP is the largest supplier of general purpose logic in the world!
While many other logic suppliers are exiting the market, NXP is growing strong.
Below are key milestones in our annual logic sales volumes, reaching over 5 billion units last year.
Memorabilia
To help you recall our logic heritage over the years, we have selected a few of our data books and manuals over the many generations of logic and of our company's branding.
