Frequently asked questions

PCI Express PHY Compliance and Interoperability FAQ

Q What are the differences between the PX1011A and PX1011B?
A The PX1011B is an improved version of the PX1011A and is 100% PCB and functionality backwards-compatible with the PX1011A. The main differences between the PX1011A and PX1011B are:
  • Improved power supply range
  • Improved transmit jitter performance
  • Improved receiver sensitivity
Q Can existing PX1011A and PX1012A customers use the PX1011B without doing a redesign of their PCB?
A Yes, definitely. In fact, because of the better performance of the PX1011B versus the PX1011A and PX1012A, we encourage customers to immediately switch to the PX1011B. Because of the more relaxed VDDD3 and VDDA1 supply voltage requirements, customer PCBs designed with the PX1011B in mind can potentially be simpler than earlier PCBs designed for the PX1011A and PX1012A. Even if the customer does not care about simplifying the power supply circuit, existing PCBs using the PX1011A or PX1012A can immediately use the PX1011B without any adverse impact. There is no need to redesign the PCB.
Q Is the PX1011B v1.0a- or v1.1-compliant?
A The PX1011B is both v1.0a- and v1.1-compliant.
Q Are the PX1011A and PX1012A on the PCI-SIG Integrators List?
A The PX1011A is listed on the PCI-SIG Integrators List since July 2005. The PX1012A has passed PCI-SIG compliance tests with the PLDA PCI Express PXPIPE EZ IP Core in December 2005.
Q Is the PX1011B on the PCI-SIG Integrators List?
A Yes. Since January 2008, the PX1011B is listed on the PCI-SIG Integrators List.
Q Have the PX1011A and PX1012A participated in previous PCI-SIG plugfests?
A The PX1011A participated and passed in various PCI-SIG Plugfests (#45, #48, #49, #53). At the PCI-SIG #53 Plugfest in December 2006, the v1.1 compliance tests became available officially, and the PX1011A passed all the official v1.1 electrical tests, and interoperated successfully with other devices. The PX1012A passed both v1.0a gold and informational v1.1 jitter tests at PCI-SIG #48 Plugfest in December 2005.
Q Are the PX1011A/B interoperable with PC systems from various vendors?
A
Yes. Both the PX1011A and PX1011B have been extensively tested in mulitple PC systems by NXP Semiconductors with partners and customers. Both devices participated in multiple PCI-SIG Plugfests with successful interoperability results.
